Percent off, without the guesswork

A 20% discount on 45.00 is not 45.00 minus 20.00. It is 45.00 minus 9.00, which is 36.00. The calculator does this instantly and shows the amount you save, so your offer stays honest and your margin stays intact.

The formula: final price = price x (1 minus discount). Reverse mode answers the other direction: you sold at a final price after a known discount, and you want the original price. Divide the final price by (1 minus discount).

Use it for sale pricing, for quoting discounts to clients, or for checking that a supplier's offer really is what it claims.

Discounts and your margin

A discount comes straight out of your margin. A 20% discount on a product priced at a 40% margin drops the margin to 25%. The margin calculator on this site shows exactly what remains after your offer.

A common pattern: price with a target margin in mind, then discount from a higher list price so the sale price still lands at your target. The two calculators work together, and both run in your browser with nothing uploaded.

Common questions

How do I calculate a percentage discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percent, divide by 100, and subtract the result. 80.00 at 25% off: 80 x 0.25 = 20.00, so you pay 60.00.

How do I find the original price after a discount?

Divide the final price by (1 minus the discount). If you paid 60.00 after 25% off, the original was 60 / 0.75 = 80.00. Use the reverse mode.

What does '30% off' really save me?

30% of the original price, not 30% off the final price. On 50.00 it saves 15.00 and you pay 35.00.

How does a discount affect my margin?

It reduces it in full. A 20% price cut on a 40% margin product leaves a 25% margin. Check with the profit margin calculator before you launch a sale.
